Gena Photiadis maintained a private piano studio in Northern Virginia from 2009 – 2016. She is currently building a new studio in Washington D.C.
Gena is classically trained, and studied with teachers from Moscow and St. Petersburg conservatories for 10 years. While at George Mason University, she was introduced to jazz and other American genres. This educational experience has shaped her teaching method.
Her teaching philosophy maintains tradition while embracing contemporary music. Lessons are tailored to the student. She has experience teaching a wide range of ages, levels, and genres (classical, jazz, popular). Reading music, ear training, music theory, technique, repertoire expansion, and general music education are all part of her curriculum.
In addition to private lessons, Gena also has ample experience coaching students in musicals. She served as music director for musicals such as Beauty and the Beast, Annie, and Hairspray, and currently serves as a music director for HST musicals in Rockville, MD.
